Significant Items from the AGM

02 May 2012

At the recent Annual General Meeting, Paul Smith was re-elected unopposed to the position of President.  This is now Paul’s third term as President.  Mark Dawson [of Queensland Team Handball Association] was elected as Director.

There were a number of significant decisions made at the AGM aimed at raising the profile of handball, stimulating greater participation in the sport and developing further the skills of players and officials.  Briefly the Board voted for the following:

·         the change of name to Handball Australia.  This avoids the confusion overseas with the acronym AHF being construed as Asian Handball Federation ;

·         the change of logo to a design reflecting better the dynamic sport [now used on the website];

·         the approval of the new sponsorship arrangement with Joma which will provide playing uniforms to all national teams; and

·         the formal expression of appreciation to Stephen Harbort for many years of service to handball.

The outcomes of discussion during the Planning Workshop which followed the AGM will be disseminated in due course.
